Host and Organizer
Storytelling night,
Amsterdam 2017
I organized a documentary screening and a storytelling night at the cultural and storytelling center Mezrab. I was the host of the evening and the facilitator for guest speakers. Prior to the event, I coached the speakers to deliver their story in an engaging way, and taught them the techniques of storytelling.
Moderator and Speaker
Movies That Matter, The Hague (2018 & 2019)
In 2018 I moderated a panel discussion following a documentary screening about fact checking and collecting information when investigating issues in conflict areas. In 2019 I was asked to participate as a guest speaker in a panel about living in exile.
Speaker
HRWeekend
Amsterdam 2017
Human Rights Watch invited me to speak on one of the panels at the Human Rights weekend in Amsterdam on the impact of social media on human rights. I specifically talked about the impact of the use of powerful images, especially in relation to the refugee crisis.
Panelist: The Spring is Yet to Come
Amsterdam, 2016
In this panel on the Arab Spring , I spoke about framing the uprising in the media, specifically framing the Bahraini uprising in different media outlets, how their political agendas play a role, and how they differ.
Storytelling coach and live translator
Tedx Amsterdam, 2016
Tedx Amsterdam needed a last minute coach to help the speaker craft his story and adapt it for a Tedx Audience and time limit. I had interviewed him online and written the highlights of his story, but due to the speaker’s travel difficulties he only arrived the day before the event which left us with little time to prepare. In one night, I coached him on how to deliver a public speech and tell an engaging story. I was also asked to live translate.
Host
World Refugee Day, Amsterdam 2016
Open Democracy asked me to host and facilitate their talent event on World Refugee Day. I had the pleasure to kick off the event, introduce all of the talents, and facilitate the rest of the evening.
